This is so where Walt Disney got the idea for Sleeping Beauty castle. It was crazy. Funny thing is that it was built in the 1880’s to 1890’s to look like a medieval castle.
We rode up to the castle in a horse drawn carriage because we could! We walked down though. It was nice to stop along the way and see the sights, like the bridge and waterfalls.
IF you know your history, Daddy made this yellow castle, the Hohenschwangau Castle, and his son Ludwig made the fairytale one, Neuschwanstein Castle. They were both worth visiting. I am sure the Neuschwanstein actually belonged to Sir Loras (GoT).
Check out the gate on this Furst Wallerstein castle. I love the pointy stakes. On the right you see Marna next to the Red Rooms. We assume they were stables but not a sole was at the castle so we were unable to ask anyone. Really, not a single person at the castle. We walked around and read the signs (some in English) but the gift shops, bathrooms, museum all closed up. It was fun without crowds. We kept thinking of scenes from GoT.
Maybe there was no one at the castles and towers (like this one that was made for a painter) but there were plenty of people at the Winter Markets. The most notable thing about attending these markets so far is that there is alcohol served everywhere and not one drunk obnoxious person yet. It is really nice to see all sorts of people at these get togethers. There are kids running around but they are having fun and not causing any trouble. Everyone has been extremely nice to us, even after they find out we are not Canadians.
This church, out in the middle of a field, was insanely ornate. And we were the only ones around. It was freezing outside and inside but it was quiet.
